A few of my friends have told me I need to blog about the benefits of Invisalign. I became an Invisalign provider in 2008 when I got out of the Navy. I was my very first patient. I had crooked crowded teeth also known as malocclusion. It’s a disease, the World Health Organization even classifies it as that. It’s a disease because the long term affects of malocclusion can lead to tooth loss, gum disease, infections, loss of function and ability to eat. Along with those wonderful things listed above, you can end up with some other negative health related implications.
Socially….let’s face it, crooked teeth don’t look as nice as straight teeth. People who have straighter teeth have more confidence when they smile and usually, people who smile more are happier.
Let’s talk about the benefits. As I eluded to earlier, crooked teeth can cause plaque and calculus to build up on your teeth. It happens because the crowding causes uneven surfaces and makes it more difficult to clean. And then combine that with lack of flossing and bam…you’ve got calculus build up, one of the precursors for gum disease. With gum disease comes bone loss and eventually you can loose those teeth.
Health implications follow. I’m a very strong believe that your overall health starts in your mouth. If you have gum disease, the bacterial population in your mouth is increased, and from there it just goes into your digestive system and the rest of your body. I think in the next few years we’re going to see a huge link between gingival inflammation in the mouth and vascular inflammation in the rest of the body.
So do yourself a solid and straighten your teeth…. Invisalign is a great option for most people. And it’s probably much cheaper than you think. I’ll run the numbers for you from my office.
$4250 is my fee for Invisalign. We offer 24 month no-interest financing through Care Credit. If you do that math it comes out to less than $6/day! Oh and lets not forget to talk about Insurance….most decent PPO insurances have some ortho benefit. It could be as little as $500 or as much as $2500. Take that out of your fee and that’s less than that PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE with extra whip you’re getting every day.
